Weight:
Approximately 2 lbs.
DESCRIPTION:
In glorious, absolutely 100% original condition. Superb original paint and with no enhancements. The helmet's shell's devoid of dents, dings or other damage, although there's some minor to moderate oxidation in areas on the surface. The helmet's only missing the original leather interior head harness and chin straps. In the notorious trenches of the
WWI European theater,
in the long, protracted struggle with
Imperial Germany
in the barren, treeless stretches of 'no-man's land,' located in principally France and Belgium, often there were quite long stretches where there was no shelling or active combat and soldiers passed away the time by decorating spent metal shell casings and often their own issued helmets with paint, often referred to as
'Trench Art.'
This particular
US Army
doughboy
'YJ 144'
is an excellent example of this practice and a wonderful original and authentic
WWI Trench Art
artifact from the
European battlefields.
Only some minor to moderate oxidation mars the otherwise great painted surfaces. Outstanding and unadulterated. The real deal.
CONDITION:
Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
