Vintage Orig WWI US Military Soldier’s GARRISON CAP / Hood - are the stains Blood? Or Rust? Looks like blood but that is creepy and really sad 😢 we think this is a US military cap but there is not a tag inside so that is only a guess (and it does match the color and material of the vintage WWI Doughboy military uniform that we recently sold. The cap measures approx 10 3/4”L and 5 1/4”Tall. The inside rim has a leather binding sewn in but it does have 2 areas of blood/rust that probably helped rot the area out and so it is missing those 2 areas of the leather binding - see pictures. There are also 2 small holes on each side (see pictures and zoom for close viewing) that seem to correspond with the spot that the soldier would have had their military hardware insignia pins probably pinned to their hat. So our guess is that those are pin holes.
Please zoom in on all the pictures to see closely. Great piece of authentic American history that is over 100 years old!!
