Awaiting your purchase is this coin silver sugar nips / tongs crafted by Samuel Tingley ? NYC, Phil. in a wonderful traditional 18thC pattern. This special item remains in Good condition, (see condition report above), and bears no monogram.
Appraiser Notes: Skullduggery? Hard to say. Let me describe: Both finger holds have solder flow inside them. In very good light, with a loupe, it is possible to see remnants of English marks namely the cartouches and possibly initials RG. The bowl's interiors are heavily scratched, and there is flow there as well-this is where ST can be seen-partially, at least.So guesswork is in the works with these-many options to consider; Were these brought to America and Tingley, after the revolution, took out the English marks? The flow is a coverup not a repair. What do you think??
