Description
From what I could figure out from the hallmarks, this is a sterling sugar bowl from Edinburgh Scotland, from 1831. It is a lovely late Georgian piece in pretty good condition. It has a couple little dings and wear, but it looks great. See the pictures for the details. It doesn’t have a monogram. It has the heraldry of a wreathed Moor’s head, or black-a-moor and the word “fideliter”. The Moor’s head was used in a few different clans, such as Morrison and Andrews and borthwick
The blackamoor was also used as a charge symbol for a successful military crusade against a foreign power.
Please see the photos, ask any questions, and make your own determinations. This is a nice piece of silver to add to your collection.
A substantial piece at 479g
