Here is a very nice EARLY US Army helmet.   This is the m1917 helmet that was used up until they switched to the M1 steel helmet we all know and love.  This is in really good shape.  The leather is still soft except for the dark areas.. those are more stiff.   One flap is marked (see pic) but I cannot make out what it reads.  The helmet is marked 20C.  The chin strap is the same as the ones on the first M1 helmets.   To the best of my knowledge this is 100% authentic.  The only thing missing is the name of the soldier written inside.  The size is approx. 7 1/2.    The textured paint is in great shape.  The rim of the helmet is aluminum and has some minor paint loss.  I don't think these were made very long and they are considered a 'transition' helmet between WWI and the M1 steel pot helmet.     Please see pics for more details.
