An exceptionally cool and unusually advanced solid sterling silver item for its age. French Jewelry Company  is the creator of this antique mechanical pencil that hides within a beautiful hand carved solid sterling silver necklace pendant. As unique as it seems, these pencils and others like it were actually common in the upper classes of society during the beginning  of the industrial revolution and into the gilded age (1840 to 1910). A quick look at the case tells me that it was handcrafted by a very qualified silversmith. I looked up the hallmark and found evidence of a French Company in the 19th century that used that particular hallmark. This belonged to my great grandmother who was gifted it used around 1915 by a male suitor not my great grandfather. It currently is loaded with artist quality pencil lead. This pencil could easily be added to a keychain if you found it too heavy to wear as a pendant.
