d glass bottle, the lettering has been cut into the glass and filled in with bronze or gold gilt.
I believe that the Old Pioneer brand was a
brand that was bottled by William H. Spears in 1800's

.   This shape of bottle is referred to as a 'pinch' bottle, that is what these are called as they look like the sides have been
'pinched' in, making it safe to grasp the bottle with one hand
.
This isn't just an ordinary 'pinch' bottle but one of very fancy design as it also has lightly beveled sides, giving it an extraordinary look

Condition
:   Bottle is in excellent clean condition with maybe a trace of age-wear or haze.  It is not a dug bottle, it is a bottle that was handed down through the ages on account of its rare and exquisite design.  It has NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc.  The gilt or gilding has some loss on account of (almost a century and a half of) time.  The matching stopper has the factory made break-mark on the very base of it from when it was hand-finished and broken off the blow pipe in the aftermath of the manufacturing process.  Please see pictures for overall idea of condition.

What a GREAT looking CLASSIC style antique PINCH WHISKEY bottle / decanter.  This is a very unique bottle in the odd TRIANGULAR SHAPE, with all three sides pushed in so it could be easily picked up and gripped with one hand, specifically with your thumb and forefinger.   These pinch bottles are highly ornate bottles, very unique, attractive, and uncommon.  Back in the day, when a saloon purchased whiskey, it was by the barrel. When they got the barrel, often the distillery sent along a few fancy glass bottles, decanters, (
pinch bottles in this instance
), to dispense the whiskey from. The bottles were ornate and colorful, usually advertising the distillery and/or the whiskey on them in enameled or wheel cut gold gilt, or
uniquely
embossed as is the case of this one. Then, the bar-keep filled the bottles from the barrel and served the whiskey out of the bottles so that the customers could see what brand of whiskey they were drinking, and also the company advertised their whiskey this way.   Some saloons had their own embossed bottles, with the name of the establishment molded into the glass of the bottle, that they would fill from the barrels.   Then they would just put a paper label on them showing the type of whiskey that it held. If you do a search on eBay, you will find just a few true antique 'pinch' whiskey saloon bottles for sale.
You will find many newer bottles, HAIG and HAIG style, but not many advertising a western brand of whiskey on it.  This bottle is a nice one
