Description
This is an antique pair of sugar tongs with spoon-shaped ends and a monogram on the bend. I don't know what the single letter is (see photo 5). It is extensively hallmarked. A four-lobed cartouche on one side has JA over TS, the mark of John Aldwinckle and Thomas Slater, who were London silversmiths. There's a K below that, meaning unknown. The other side has the leopard's head crowned, lion passant and letter P, which dates this to 1890-1891. (Reference:Jackson's Hallmarks.
).
The tongs measure 5 3/4” from tips to bend, 11/16” wide at the bend, with a 1 3/4” spread at the tips. They weigh 50.8 grams. They are in excellent condition, undamaged in any way.
