Description
This is a nice, nearly uncirculated, silver,
"Drei"
or Three Marks from the
"Kingdom of Bavaria"
. It was struck at the Munich mint in 1912 during the
"Reign"
of King Otto I. He was
"King"
from 1886 until he was deposed in 1913, but he never actually ruled.
Otto despised the
"Iron Duke"
Otto von Bismarck of Prussia and was appalled by the creation of the new
"German Empire"
. He had served in the
"Franco-Prussian War"
of 1871 and was traumatized by his experience. Enough so that he was diagnosed with
"Mental Illness"
by his attending physician, Dr. Bernhard von Gudden. His uncle, Luitpold, who became Regent, and Dr. Gudden, both supported Prussia's rise to dominance. Contemporaries believed that Gudden's diagnoses of Otto was motivated by political considerations.
Weight: 16.67 Gram, 33 Millimeter, .900 Silver. Mintage: 1,013,650.

Reverse:
DEUTSCHES REICH 1912 • DREI MARK • Crowned Imperial Eagle, order chain around its neck and arms on its breast. Those with another, smaller eagle, also with Hohenzollern arms on its breast.
The Coin:
A choice, almost uncirculated example, it saw a few hands, and shows light wear. Brilliant and lustrous it is nearly full white. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
